Re: Building an aquarium stand.

Hello @Drewaddison

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building an aquarium stand.

An aquarium at that size filled with water and loaded with accessories would approximately weigh anywhere from 800 to 880kg. This is a substantial load and must be considered carefully when placing the aquarium, especially on upper floors or timber-framed areas. If this is for your patio or tiled area, ensure that the slab can bear the load evenly, and consider using a base that distributes the weight well to avoid point stress on tiles or grout lines.

I propose looking at using 140x45 framing timber and 100x100 posts. The design for this stand must be done correctly and safely to avoid sagging and deflection. I therefore suggest engaging the services of a builder who has experience in building heavy duty aquarium stands. I don't recommend doing this as a D.I.Y project as the safety factor involved in building this type of stand is very important.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
