Re: timber shelves for garden shed . size of frame? shelves covering sheet?

Hello @Revi

The timber size will depend on what you plan to put on top of it. If you are placing heavy items, it would be best to use 90x45, but if you are only putting in light to medium weight items then I suggest looking at using 70x35. It will make the frame lighter and easy to move around. In regards to the actual shelf itself, I suggest using plywood so that it can put up with day-to-day use. A center support can be placed in should your decide to put heavy items on the shelf.

As to the division of the shelf supports again it will depend on how many you wish to put in. Your picture shows that the shelf has four supports including the two that are on the outside. If your shelf is 3.75 meters long you can divide it by three to give you an average of where the support pieces will be so conservatively a distance of around 1.25m per support. This figure could change if the shelf was made slightly smaller.

Please give me some time to draw up a sample frame, I will post it here as soon as I finish it.

Re: How to build timber shelves for garden shed?

Hello @Revi

Thank you for your patience. I've placed some images below to give you an idea of what the timber shelves could look like. The frame is based off the All Set 100L Grey And Green Heavy Duty Storage Container With Flat Lid. It comes in different sizes, so I recommend visiting your local store to see which storage container suites your needs. I maximized the timber frame based on the measurements you've provided, but please adjust them to your needs.

I recommend using Zenith 10 - 8 x 100mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head Timber Screws - 50 Pack to anchor the timber frame together. My best advice is to drill pilot holes to prevent cracking the timber and prevent snapping the heads off. However, for the legs in the middle I suggest Zenith 10 - 8 x 65mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head Timber Screws.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
