How to change direction of Ryobi d1200 door closer?

I bought a Ryobi D1200 door closer and when I went to install it as per the standard instructions I found that the door would not be able to fully open as a wall was in the way. There are alternative instructions online for mounting it on the frame with measurements which I have used but after mounting it I found the action of the arm goes the wrong way. This door has the hinges on the RH side. How do you alter the direction of the arm as there is no left or right on the packet.

I am a bit worried this opener might not be suitable as I understand from other queries it is slow to open and requires a lot of effort. The packaging is ruined now but I am wondering if I should return it.

regards

Re: Ryobi d1200 door close

Hi @Chris_b,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

I have emailed Ryobi's technical support and am currently awaiting a response on how you would go about altering the direction of that particular door closer. When we have a response, I will relay that information to you.

If you still have the receipt, regardless of the state of the packaging, you can return the product to your store of purchase for a refund or exchange.

Please bear with me, I will get you an answer when Ryobi's tech team have responded.

Re: How to change direction of Ryobi d1200 door closer?

Hi @Chris_b,

I went and grabbed one so I could work it out for myself.

Here are the install instructions for both left and right-handed installations.

If you are finding the arm is pulling in the wrong direction, you would simply flip the unit over and change the orientation of the face plate.

You can see in the instructions that the backcheck valve, labelled BC on the unit, is on different sides depending on the orientation.

There's a good chance your holes are in the wrong location which would mean you need to alter the screw locations based on the measurements in the above plans.

Try flipping the unit over and let me know how it goes.

Hi @Chris_b,

It would also be worth checking out How to install Ryobi 65kg Hydraulic Door closer - preloading? for some further guidance.

Re: How to change direction of Ryobi d1200 door closer?

Hi Jacob

Thanks for the instructions. Different to what was in my pack as mine is mounted on the door jamb but while I can't find a template I should be able to work out where it should be so will see what I can do.

Thanks for your help.
