How to identify wall material & fill a drill hole?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on identifying my wall material and the best way to fill a small drill hole.

1. Wall Material: How can I determine what material my wall is made of? (e.g., brick, limestone, etc.) Are there any easy tests or signs to look for?

2. Filling a Drill Hole: I have a small drill hole that I’d like to fill and repaint. What are the best options for filling it, considering different wall materials?

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

There's no real need to identify the material as you can use a general filler such as this UNi-PRO 500g Multi Purpose Interior Filler for any material that is commonly used for interior walls.

If the holes were outdoors, then it would be a different story, but because they will not be exposed to the elements a general-purpose filler will work fine as long as it is not in a wet area such as a shower or behind a sink.

Apply the filler to the hole, give it a light sand with a sanding sponge and then paint to match the surrounding walls.

Just another question, what type of screws or bolts should I use to mount the Carinya 400 x 350mm Black Heavy Duty Twisted Stay Bracket on this wall?

I suggest looking at the following fixtures:

These fixtures are all rated for use on brick and masonry walls. Please make sure to check that they fit the mounting hole of the Carinya bracket you'll be purchasing.
