How to install garage door seal?

Hi, I ordered a garage door seal online to cover the top and side gaps of my roller door. I didn’t pay much attention when purchasing, assuming my garage door had wooden jambs. However, I later found out it’s just exposed brick with no jambs at all. The seal I bought has an adhesive strip and can also be fastened with screws.

I’d like to ask:

    1. Since the adhesive tape may not stick well to the porous brick surface, what alternative product can I use to attach it securely without causing any damage or residue if I need to remove the seal later?

    2. What kind of fasteners or screws would be suitable for securing it to the brick wall after applying the adhesive?

Re: Application of Garrage door seal

Hello @foxhound

I propose looking at using Selleys 320g Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive. I suggest washing the surface very well with water and detergent to remove any fine dust or debris on the surface. Once its dry you can then apply the adhesive. Please note that Selleys is a very strong adhesive and will need to be grinded off should you decide to remove it later on. It will attach itself permanently and will probably leave stains on the surface.

I'm currently unaware of an adhesive that will provide a non-destructive hold on the surface and anchor your rubber strip at the same time. As an alternative, I suggest looking at Gorilla 1.5m Black Mounting Tape. Although not as destructive as liquid adhesives, it will leave a sticky residue when removed.

In regards to the wall plugs and screws, I suggest looking at using Ramset 6 x 38mm Universal Anchor.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @Noyade for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Application of Garrage door seal

Good Evening @foxhound

I was thinking of installing a flat piece of metal trim on the bricks so you could then have a very smooth surface to attach your seal.

Metal Mate 25 x 1.6mm 3m Aluminium Flat Bar As an indication of the width of the aluminium (tho would like it wider, just depends on the size of the sticky strip you have.) You would attach the aluminium via some countersunk holes in the trim and green wall plugs into your brickwork.
