I've just had solar batteries installed and I want to paint the FC sheeting behind them to match the rest of my garage wall. I was going to use the dulux wash and wear paint that I have left over from the garage plasterboard walls so it all matches. Will I be able to use this same paint and can I just apply multiple layers of it instead of using a primer?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Shannon288. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about preparing a surface for painting.
It would be best to first apply a primer before using your Dulux Wash & Wear. On a bare masonry surface like FC sheeting, I’d recommend Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat 500mL. This will bind to the surface properly, seal it, and give your topcoat the best chance of lasting as long as the rest of your garage walls.
You could technically apply the Wash & Wear directly onto the cement sheeting and build it up with multiple coats, but the issue is that it’s difficult to know how well it will hold up over time without a primer. The paint may not adhere as strongly, which can affect durability, especially in a garage environment where surfaces get knocked around a bit more. Using a proper primer first gives you peace of mind that the finish will match and last.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
