Hi, I have a Oldfields/Treco 3mx1.5m shed that is painted Smooth Cream. The paint is still in good condition, however I want a colour change in order to match a 2nd new shed I'm about to build. I was thinking of using a product like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/wattyl-4l-pre-tinted-shale-grey-low-sheen-solagard-exterior-paint_p0630336 to paint the shed. Just wanting to know what I need to do to prep the shed before applying this or similar paint.
Thanks
Tim
Hi Tim (@tsteele),
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
The preparation details for Wattyl Solagard Exterior Paint can be found in the Product Datasheet.
For new and weathered Colorbond surfaces, they recommend the following -
"Ensure surfaces are degreased, clean and free of salts or other deposits. Preparation can vary depending on the quality of the Colorbond® steel surface. For help and advice, please call Wattyl Assist on 132101 for specific guidance."
With this in mind, assuming the shed is in decent condition without rust or excessive damage, I would suggest giving the surface a good clean with degreaser and a scrubbing brush to remove any grease, salt or other deposits, then flushing the shed with clean water.
You would then allow the surface to fully dry before applying two coats of your paint using a roller, brush or paint sprayer.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
thanks Jacob, I have some degreaser, that should do the trick
