How to replace garden shed base?

I need to replace my garden shed's base, which has rotted from water damage. I'm looking for the best, most durable, and affordable DIY options for a complete beginner. This will be my first DIY project.

Re: Garden Shed Base Replacement

Hi @rajeshk,

Thank you for your question about replacing the base of your shed.

It looks like they previously used a combination of timber sleepers and decking boards to create the base for your shed. The issue with this is that decking boards are not treated to be in close proximity to the ground in the way sleepers are.

My suggestion is to rip out the old base and replace it with a base made entirely of timber sleepers.

The joists, which sit on the ground, should be spaced no more than 600mm apart and should be anchored to the ground with 50mm Sleeper Pegs

You can then use 100mm Batten Screws to attach the sleepers that will act as the floor to the joists.

Once constructed, you can attach your shed to your new, extremely sturdy shed base.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi @rajeshk,

Would you consider a concrete slab?

The guide How to pour a concrete slab shows you how.
