Sealing rusted joint between tin sheeting and outdoor wood heater exhaust

Hi everyone,

I would like a product recommendation to seal a leaking joint between my wood heater chimney that is in the pergola and the tin roof. Pls see images.

Also is WD 40 good enough to remove rust?

Thanks!!!

Re: Sealing rusted joint between tin sheeting and outdoor wood heater exhaust

Hi @varununi,

It would be best to have one of these Scandia 171 x 381mm Tin Roof Flashings on your roof. It prevents water from leaking between the pipe and your tin roof.

WD-40 won't help remove the rust from your pipe. You might like to consider replacing it. You could sand back the bulk of the rust, convert it with a rust converter and then apply Scandia 400g Metallic Black High Temp Enamel. With the roof seal in place stopping the water, the rust converted, and the paint on the pipe, the rust will be kept at bay for some time.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
