How to add drainage before installing artificial grass?

looking at putting artificial grass in the backyard. We get water runoff from our neighbours as the are higher than us. The builder says the pipes in our backyard can be used for drainage. Do we just need to cut them to ground level & put a drainage top on them? They are on either side at the back of the house.
Many thanks. ☺️

Re: drainage

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @nicoletukaki. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about drainage.

I'd recommend you consult with a drainage professional or engage them to complete the work. This is something you really need to get right now, as there will be an additional cost down the track. You will likely be able to connect to your stormwater if pipes are available, but you'll need to install a significant amount of drainage lines under the soil across the whole area. It's not quite as simple as putting drainage outlets on top of the current pipes.

Have a look at the useful guide: How to install garden drainage and How to fix a muddy lawn.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
