Hello Team,
How much I can rely on the pH meters? I am using this and can I go by the reading this meter shows to adjust the soil pH?
Also please advise me how to adjust the soil pH.
Thanks
Balaji.

Hi @balaji27,
Those basic probe-style pH meters can be useful for giving you a general indication, but they are not very accurate and should not be relied on for precise adjustments. They tend to be influenced by soil moisture, contact with the probe and even the type of soil, so the reading can drift quite a lot. If you want a result you can trust, a simple soil pH test kit that uses a colour indicator will give you a much more reliable measurement. They are inexpensive and far more consistent.
Once you have an accurate reading, you can adjust your soil pH gradually rather than trying to make a big change all at once. If the soil is too acidic, garden lime is the usual way to raise the pH. If the soil is too alkaline, sulphur will bring it down. Always follow the recommended application rates and retest after a few weeks to see how the soil has responded. This slow, steady approach keeps the plants safe and gives you a clear idea of how the soil is changing.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello @MitchellMc - Thanks a lot for your prompt response and guidance. Yes, when I used this pH meter it was showing different results when I checked in the same place twice and nearby areas. I will get the pH test kit and check.
Thanks
Balaji.
