Hi,
I am looking at building a chicken coop and want to know the best wood for it. safe for my chickens but not going to rot in the elements.
It will be in contact with the ground for the base.
Thanks
Hello @christopherduff
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about building a chicken coup.
I propose using 70 x 35mm Outdoor Framing H3 Treated Pine - 2.4m. This is treated timber that can withstand weather exposure and insect attack. But you can't put this in direct contact with soil. I therefore suggest using Brighton Masonry 200 x 200 x 50mm Cream Mypave 225 Paver as footing for your proposed chicken coup. They are very affordable, weatherproof and can be moved around should you wish to transfer your chicken coup's location. My best advice is to paint the chicken coup to seal the timber and extend its service life.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Hi @christopherduff,
Welcome to the community. We're looking forward to seeing your chicken coop project come to life.
Just thought I'd add that you should get loads of inspiration from our collection of 10 chicken coops and nesting boxes by Workshop members.
There's also step-by-step instructions from the Bunnings team in the guide How to build a D.I.Y. chicken coop.
