How to build garden bed retaining wall along the fence?

Hello experts

hope everyone is doing well.

started a diy project for garden bed retaining wall along the fence.

my house is at corner and above the ground around 400-500 mm also attached photos.

now i need to fill the gap by building a retaining wall.

i found various options to build using

- 100*100 timber post and 200*50 timber

- steel post and 200*50 timber

- Just 200*50 timber supported with fence post without any new posts (not recommended)

but not sure what will be the best and how i should i make easy to dig hole for post.

i have already dig some holes but its pretty hard as i dont have much space to stand as in photos and its clay which is hard to dig.

I already checked various post in this community but couldn’t something similar to my situation.

Any suggestions for me.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

You've already mentioned that it would not be recommended to use sleepers against the existing posts, to which I would agree.

I'd suggest using the Ridgi sleeper posts and concreting them in. As your fence posts will have concrete footings already, I would locate your posts halfway between the existing fence posts, so you don't have to avoid existing concrete, except for in the corners. It also means you can get your retaining wall right up against the fence without having to shift anything.

In terms of digging, your best option would be to rent a Post Hole Digger, which will make light work of the clay. Alternatively, a Fencing Bar and some Long Handle Post Hole Pincers will also work. Break up the soil with the fencing bar, then remove it with the pincers.

Once the holes are dug, you can set your sleeper posts in place with concrete, ensuring they are nice and plumb. You can do this with a magnetic torpedo level, which will cling to the posts.
