Hi
I planted this Mandarin tree two years ago but since then it has never grown flowers or fruits. It looks a healthy tree to me and seems that the main stem is the graft branch which should technically grow fruits. Just recently I added some fertilisers.
I appreciate your expert advice.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @bardiab1985. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fruit trees.
Could you tell us a bit more about what kind of fertilising you’ve done over the past two years? If you haven’t fertilised much or at all, that could definitely explain why your mandarin tree hasn’t flowered or fruited yet. Also, let us know exactly what fertiliser you’ve recently added and how much you used.
In the meantime, I recommend incorporating organic matter, such as compost, into the soil around the tree and applying a seaweed-based fertiliser like Powerfeed regularly to support overall plant health. Pair that with a citrus-specific slow-release fertiliser applied as directed, and with some patience, you should start seeing some improvement.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell
Thanks for your prompt reply. This is the first time that I am adding fertiliser to the tree which happened two weeks ago. I used Osmocote all purpose and I would say that I sprinkled three to four table spoon around it.
I would follow your instruction and I will incorporate it into my other citrus based plants.

Hi @bardiab1985
I have a small Mandarin tree that I inherited from my Mother in Law and the first couple of years the fruit was very dry.
Citrus are gross feeders and shouldn't let it dry out.
I deep water the pot at least two time a week in the dry weather (make sure the drainage is good) and fertilise every month during the growing season.
I use Vasili's products on everything and my harvests have tripled.
Yesterday I tried one of the fruits and it was delicious, full of moisture and flavour. 😊
Hi @bergs
Thanks a lot for your advice. I visited Bunnings today and bought compost and fertiliser. Unfortunately, the previous tenant didn’t look after it, and I can see how dry it is. However, I managed to set up an irrigation system and will keep watering it regularly.
I will send you an updated picture as soon as I see the first fruit:)
