How to fill a new garden bed?

Hi, I have 3 garden beds which I am looking to grow vegetables in. I have builders plastic to layer the bottom and sides. I am wondering if I should fill maybe a third with gravel/ small stones for drainage and the rest with just potting soil or a mixture of potting soil and dirt? Obviously I would go soil, gravel and then builders plastic?Measurements are 900mm x 1200mm x 300mm high.

To start, you'd need to ensure that you add plenty of drainage holes in the plastic, otherwise it will fill up like a pond. You might like to consider weed matting instead of the plastic to allow water drainage.

It might be a good idea to place 50mm of drainage gravel in the bottom, but 1/3 or 100mm is quite a bit. 300mm of growing depth is about the minimum you'd want for vegetables, so I wouldn't take up a 1/3 of that with gravel.
