How to fix Gardena water distributer and gardena water computer getting stuck?

I have a Gardena water distributor, which has four hoses attached to it, and five and six is capped and closed for the Gardena water distributor. The distributor is working with the Gardena water computer. Now, when I turn on the computer manually for water, it goes through a cycle of all the four outlets and then gets stuck at five. For it to work again, I have to open the hose from the top and release the pressure, and then it automatically resets to one. What can I do to permanently fix it and what is causing it?

I can't say I'm sure how to best address this issue, you'll have to allow me to get in touch with Gardena when they reopen tomorrow to see if they have a solution to this issue.

Can you advise which specific water distributor and computer you have? Possibly this GARDENA Master Water Computer and this GARDENA Automatic Water Distributor?

Please let me know so I can provide Gardena with as much information as possible.

Hi @abhijeett,

This is a common occurrence when the manifold hasn't been set up to ignore unused ports. You should find some orange levers on the distributor's inlet side. Look for levers five and six and pull them to the centre, which is the off position. This should prevent the distributor from trying to run the manual cycle through them and instead cause it to return to one after it's done with four instead of getting stuck on five.

I’m having it the same similar issue but I have all six been used and it seems to be skipping 2,3 and 4.

i am on my 2nd device over the last 6 years. Have have gave the orange taps some move ment and even with 4,5,6 turned off it still jumps from 1 to 5.
any thoughts?

Start by temporarily disconnecting the water computer and manually testing the distributor. Turn the water supply on and observe if it cycles through all six outlets properly. If it skips, this will indicate the issue is with the distributor itself. If it doesn't skip, then we can focus our efforts on the computer.

Even though you've moved the orange taps, debris or mineral buildup inside the distributor could still block the valves. I'd suggest giving the distributor a good clean before moving on to further troubleshooting efforts.

The Gardena Water Distributor Operator's Manual recommends cleaning the filter and rinsing the water distributor once a year. See the following excerpt on how to rinse out the distributor.

Set all flow levers to on and remove the end caps.
Open the water tap or set the Water Computer to manual irrigation.
After 30 seconds, press the dial disc so that the next outlet will be rinsed out.
Repeat Number 3 for all outlets.

If the problem persists, disconnect the water computer and distributor completely, then reassemble and reprogram them. Sometimes, resetting can resolve internal glitches.

If the problem still persists, the internal mechanism of the distributor may be worn out after years of use meaning it will need to be replaced.

I do have the unused ports disabled but it still gets stuck.

I'm sorry to hear you are having an issue with your Gardena product.

Could you please clarify whether this is a brand-new unit or one that was previously working correctly and has only recently started playing up? That can make a big difference to the next steps.

As a starting point, I’d suggest fully cycling the distributor. Turn all ports on, run it briefly so it rotates through, then turn them all off again. After that, re-enable only the ports you want to use and re-disable the unused ones using the orange levers. This can sometimes reset the internal selector and resolve issues where it appears to be getting stuck.

It’s also worth noting that in some situations, the unit isn’t actually getting stuck on the disabled ports themselves. Instead, it can fail to disengage from the last active port it was watering. This can happen depending on flow rate, pressure, or how the connected irrigation line is set up. When that happens, it can look like it’s trying to move to a disabled outlet, when in reality it hasn’t fully finished cycling off the previous one.

If the unit is brand new and continues to do this after trying the steps above, there is a possibility of a fault. In that case, your best option is to contact Gardena directly. Their support team are extremely helpful and very familiar with these systems, and they can walk you through detailed troubleshooting over the phone. Quite often they prefer customers to contact them directly for exactly this sort of issue, as they can quickly identify whether it’s a setup problem or a product fault.
