How to fix Ryobi lawn mower not turning on?

Hi, I have a ryobi lawn mower 36V 46cm Brushless Lawn Mower Skin that just stopped working.. I was cutting the grass and it cut out. I thought maybe the battery died and then when I checked the battery was around 75%. I fully charged the batter but it still didn’t turn on. I checked the fuse key and the battery port to ensure there is no dust or debri and it’s all clean.. can some one help please

Sound like you did all the right things

All I can add is is the battery and lawn mower hot form the hot days? as some times these things are designed to shut down due to heat expecially the batteries.

Where you buy mower from they might be your next port of call especially if the mower under warranty.

I bought it from bunnings, and it’s out of warranty. Might have to give them a call, but I don’t know if they repair ?

I just thought I'd add that Ryobi's 36V range of tools has a four-year warranty on the tool. Even if it is out of warranty, I would still recommend you take it and your battery into your local store with proof of purchase to see if our Power Gardening experts have some thoughts on what the issue might be.

My only other thought would be to check to see if anything has got tangled around the blade, preventing the motor from turning. Ensure you have removed the battery entirely before checking.

I might do that.. I have had it for just over 6 years now, but probably don’t have proof of purchase. I did check under and the blade is all clean, nothing blocking it. The battery is new as I replaced the battery less than 4 months ago.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way with both Ryobi and Ozito products @Jewelleryrescue and @hmz44 . Even if they were tech smart, unless they are one of the very few service agents, they don't have accounts to purchase spares. And in reality, most mower shops are not interested in repairing anything they don't have access to i.e Bunnings exclusive brands. You can contact Ryobi from this page. But would highly recommend calling than sending a message. But being over 6yrs old it's definitely out of even the extended warranty period offered with registration.

For future ref: When you buy either of these brands and many others, it's a great idea to register the purchase online. It often rewards the product with an extended warranty, but most importantly records the purchase in case the receipt it lost.

Both the batteries and motors (only brushless) have electronic protection systems that will kick in if either is overloaded or overheated. Over-temp will be often caused more by heavy duty use over a long period than ambient temp causing one or the other to cut out. Either will need to cool down before it will reset. Batteries take longer than the motors to reset. Overloaded protection will reset each time the tool is restarted.

Sometimes the electronics between battery and brushless motors don't like to talk to each other, even though they have not had a problem in the past. Remove/replace the battery or putting it on the charger for a few minutes and then back in the tool can settle the argument. The last thing to try is another battery. If you don't have one or a friend with any 36V battery to do this test with, your local store maybe able to help. If you take your mower, the power garden team member may have a test battery available. The test will need to be conducted outside and away from people. So, don't take the mower into the store. I would call/call in first and just see if this is something they can do? It may depend on which team member is working at the time too.

Hi @hmz44

Sometimes the battery contacts get dirty if you can get to them use a pencil rubber to clean them. Some times the springyness of the contacts softeners and if the metal contacts can be teased out a little to make better contact.

Try using a contact cleaner spray I buy from Jaycar as it is a specialist spray (do not use on live circuits ) DO not use oil based sprays like wd 40
