The sprinkler is leaking when the system is off. This morning it was gushing down the driveway. I manually turned the valves on for a few seconds, then off again. Now the water is just dribbling from the sprinkler, but still leaking obviously. Is this a repair I can do myself or do I need to call in a professional?
Hi @jwazz,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
In order for us to offer our best advice, can I trouble you for some further details on the sprinkler system?
When you say the system is off, is the mains water connection turned off? Or is it individual valves that are off?
How many and what type of sprinkler do you have?
Is there an automation system, such as a timer or irrigation controller in use?
Can you find the location of the leak? Or is it coming from the sprinklers themself?
Do you have any photos of the system that you can show us?
Any further details you can provide would help us narrow things down and help us to either work out how to fix it or determine that a professional might be needed.
We will assist further when you can get back to us.
Jacob
Hi,
Thanks for your help.
Mains: On
System control box: Off. Automated system is turned off and no timer is set. It's been off for a year as we have watered manually (hose/sprinkler). No issues to date.
Valves: Appear to be off
Number of sprinklers: I'd have to check, but the issue today was with just one. It wasn't the lowest one.
Leak: From the sprinkler itself, however since posting the "dribble" has stopped completely. But, I'd still be keen to know if this happens again...which probably likely..., is it a job for a professional?
Hello @jwazz
It appears to be an automated system and could be using solenoids to control the water. Generally speaking, these solenoids operate on low 24V electricity and can be serviced. However, if the fault lies in the controller, you'll need to contact the manufacturer in order to get a troubleshooting guide. If after going through the list and the controller still malfunctions it will be necessary to replace it. If you are not familiar with electric irrigation systems, I propose engaging the services of a garden irrigation professional and they can troubleshoot the system for you.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
