Re: How to kill weeds between plants?

Hello @jalal

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about killing weeds.

For a one-off end-of-lease cleanup where you just need the weeds and grass in that bed gone quickly, the simplest and most effective DIY approach is to use a non-selective herbicide. These kill most green growth they touch, so you’ll need to be careful to avoid spraying the hedge plants along the fence.

The common choices are glyphosate-based products (sold under brands like Roundup, Zero, or generic “weed killer”). Glyphosate is usually the most reliable, it gets absorbed into the leaves and travels down to the roots, so regrowth is less likely. Spray on a dry day with no rain expected for at least six hours, ideally with plenty of sun. Within about a week, you should see yellowing and die-off. I can't guarantee an immediate die off as it all depends on absorbtion rate of the weeds.

When applying the spray, shield your hedge by using cardboard or a piece of plastic as a barrier so the spray only hits the weeds. After a week, you can cut back or rake out the dead material, leaving the area clean for handover.

Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when using the chemical sprays.
