How to regenerate lawn?

Attached are the images of lawn in my home. I've a few questions.

1 - What type of lawn is it? Is it buffalo? Trying to understand as a few fertilisers and weed killers are not compatible for all grass?

2 - How do I regenerate the section of the lawn as shown in the second image?

3 - A section of the lawn is not thick. What is the best fertiliser to improve the thickness?

Thank you for your questions about your lawn.

Your lawn is buffalo. You can tell by how wide the blades of grass are compared to other species of grass. With this in mind, any fertilisers or weed killers you use need to be labelled as safe for use with buffalo lawns. For example, this Yates 4L BuffaloPro Hose On Lawn Weed Killer is fine for use with buffalo grasses.

The less healthy section you've shown looks like it may be a low spot where water is pooling. During heavy downpours does water pool here?

If so, you should start by removing the dead grass with a thatching rake, aerating the soil with an aerator and raising the level in this section by adding topdress and levelling with a topsoil spreader.

Spreading buffalo slow-release lawn fertiliser with a fertiliser spreader will help your lawn thicken. Mowing at a consistent height regularly and watering will also help the lawn thicken. Mowing consistently will encourage the lawn to put its energy into growing sideways as opposed to up.

Thank you very much for the response and guidance.

regarding the section where the lawn isn’t healthy, it is actually closer to the exterior wall of the house. It has a shade from the roof. Don’t see water pooling there.

will try to fertilise and water as suggested and see how it goes.

Regardless of whether water is pooling or not, the process of dethatching, aerating and top dressing will still help.
