How to remove winter grass infestation?

Hi

Our turf is Buffalo, but it has now been semi-overrun by (what I think is) Winter Grass.

I understand the most effective way to remove the Winter Grass is to take it out by hand, but it covers a wide area, which would make that difficult.

Suggestions/advice is welcome

Thank you

Re: How to remove winter grass infestation?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Bamba and apologies for the slow reply. Unfortunately we don't have one of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts on the site today.

It's a little hard to tell from your photos but it seems there is very little of your Buffalo lawn left. Is that correct?

One of our team @JacobZ has given advice that you can follow in this previous discussion: How to get rid off winter grass from turf?

If it is a large area and you don't want to try manual removal, your best course of action might be to kill everything and start again. The Best Advice article What to do when weeds overtake your lawn suggests the best course of action for this scenario.

Hope that helps.

Jason

Re: Winter Grass

Hi @Bamba,

If it's a manageable amount, then you can certainly spray with Amgrow Winter Grass Killer. Mix it in a Garden Pressure Sprayer, following the instructions on the package for the recommended mixing ratio, then spray it on the clumps.

Alternatively, if that doesn't knock it off, you can use glyphosate in an applicator brush. Brush it all over the leaf tips of the weed grass, but ensure you avoid brushing it on your Buffalo, as it will kill that too.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
