Recently had our courtyard decked and some planter boxes made at each end of a bench seat.
They are lined with cement sheeting and the edges have been siliconed. Unsure how to actually go with planting into them - main concern is regarding drainage
Hi @HouseofWilliams,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
As long as there is no framing beneath that is likely to be affected, then the simplest solution is to drill some holes through the base of the planter. You can use a masonry bit in a standard drill to put the holes in the fibre cement sheet.
You should then add a thin layer of drainage gravel to the base of the planter, as this will help to prevent these holes from getting plugged up, preventing drainage, and it will also help to stop the soil from eroding through.
Once you have done this, add a high-quality potting mix such as this Scotts Osmocote 50L Premium Plus Superior Potting Mix. It contains water crystals, which will help to hold water in the soil for your plants to use.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
