Hi
I got installed buffalo turf in December 2024.
Unfortunately, half of my lawn has been brown patches as shown in the attached photos. Strangely, the other half remains green and healthy. I'm unsure what's causing the issue and would appreciate any assistance or advice.
Last month, I applied a lawn starter and a seaweed solution, but the problem persists. I've also been watering the lawn regularly—though not excessively, as we've had consistent rainfall since December.
Please see the attached photos. (one photo shows both healthy and affected ares for comparisson)
I'm located in Ipswich, QLD 4301.

Hello @csalgar81
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your lawn.
The brown patches on your buffalo lawn could be due to a few possible causes, especially given the mix of healthy and affected areas. Given your recent lawn starter and seaweed solution application, the issue is less likely to be nutrient-related and more likely linked to soil conditions, pests, or disease. One common cause in your area is lawn grub or armyworm, which can cause significant damage to buffalo grass.
I recommend inspecting the affected areas closely for signs of chewed blades or small white moths, which can indicate a grub problem. If you suspect this, the Richgro 2.5kg Lawn Beetle and Grub Killa or the Yates 2.5kg Grub Kill and Protect from Bunnings are good options for control.
Alternatively, the brown patches could be from fungal diseases like brown patch or dollar spot, which can thrive in the humid conditions typical of Ipswich. In this case, a fungicide like the Yates Mancozeb Plus can help. Finally, consider the possibility of compacted soil, especially if the affected areas are in high foot traffic zones or have poor drainage. Aerating these areas and applying a soil conditioner like Seasol 1L Liquid Compost could improve root health and recovery.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
