How to treat Winter Lights Lilly Pilly ends wilting and dry?

Hi,

My Winter Lights Lilly Pilly ends have been wilting and appear dry.

I planted this tree around 2-3 weeks ago without applying any fertilizer or seasol.

I would also consider myself a beginner to gardening.

Re: How to treat Winter Lights Lilly Pilly ends wilting and dry?

Hello @lenny__

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your Lilly Pilly.

It sounds like your Winter Lights Lilly Pilly is experiencing a bit of transplant shock, which is quite common in the first few weeks after planting, especially if the weather has been dry, windy, or unusually warm. The wilting and dry tips are usually a sign that the roots are struggling to establish and aren’t yet taking up enough water to support the new growth. Even though you haven’t used fertiliser or Seasol, you’ve actually done the right thing by avoiding fertiliser at planting—too much too soon can burn young roots.

However, applying a product like Seasol (which isn’t a fertiliser but a seaweed tonic) can really help strengthen the root system and reduce stress. Make sure the tree is getting a deep watering every few days, especially in the absence of good rainfall, and check that the soil isn’t staying soggy either—Lilly Pillies like consistent moisture but not waterlogged roots. As you gain more confidence and the plant establishes itself, you might look at applying a slow-release native fertiliser in early spring to support healthy growth, but for now, focus on good watering habits and helping the roots settle in.
