Welcome to the Workshop community. We're really pleased to have you join us. I'm sure our members will have some helpful advice for you about this project and many more to come in the future.
My personal experience is that controlling weeds in an area like this unfortunately isn't just a matter of laying down stones. They will always find a way through! So if you are keen on using stones for aesthetic reasons, be aware that there will still be maintenance required.
