Is there a pet friendly way to get rid of bamboo escaping from my neighbour’s side of the fence?

I’ve really intrusive bamboo getting into my backyard from my neighbour. I’m having someone dig down with the idea of digging in a barrier, maybe concreting before filling in. It’s how to deal with the bamboo roots (or whatever they’re called) that I’m not sure about. I can leave the roots exposed for a while so I can do repeated treatments. There is grass nearby that I don’t obviously want to kill in the process.

But I have a cat and a dog and need a pet friendly option, I can try to keep them off the area, but I’d prefer to be cautious. Any suggestions welcome.

Bamboo can be pretty resilient, so there are no "pet-friendly" products I'm aware of that will kill it. Typically, you'll pour the glyphosate mix into a cut node, and the plant will absorb it, so there's no spraying to be done. If you are particularly concerned, I'd suggest creating a temporary fence out of garden stakes and chicken wire to exclude your cat and dog from the area while you apply chemicals.

Remember your PPE when using chemicals, including a face mask, gloves and safety glasses.
