My D.I.Y deck project for 2022

B7203F9A-92BE-46E9-98DB-DD53B50D41DC.jpeg

This is my D.I.Y project that I undertook and finished this February. This deck was something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I was diagnosed and had surgery for cancer. Post surgery came the chemotherapy treatments.

I was determined that post surgery when things had healed I would start my project.

A month after surgery chemotherapy treatment started. During chemotherapy, and all of it’s side affects I was determined that it would not keep me down.

I started my deck and finished it before the chemotherapy treatments finished.

I think it turned out well. Just have the raised garden beds to finish when the weather warms up.

All materials came from Bunnings and all done with Ozito power tools.

Hello @Aliti1

What a fantastic effort in creating your low-level deck. I cant' quite make it out, but did you place a breaker board near the end of the deck right after the cement post? I was just curious why you placed one there, is it because of the limit on the decking board length? Thanks for posting those photos of your decking frame, I'm sure our members who are planning a similar project will them very useful.

Thank you very much for sharing your amazing low-level deck project.

Re: My D.I.Y deck project for 2022

Thanks Eric.

I used the pre-oiled 5.7 metre lengths from Bunnings. That “breaker board” as you called it is where the 5.7metre boards finished. It was my way to strengthen that area where the 5.7m length finished and the new length started. This way my aim was to keep the join flat and level with each other.

I have attached another picture which hopefully gives you a better view.

You can also see in this picture that the frame was covered with a rubber strip before the merbau was layed.

This was the first deck that I have built and some things may look strange in the frame but it worked for me and the deck has no bounce or creaking.2D36F4B8-A1FB-4F4F-B5DD-07F48FA8A520.jpeg
