Retaining garden bed with screening bamboo

Our Neighbours have just had a super large renovation and their balcony lights shine all the way into our bedrooms. We needed to build a screen that was minimum 10metres to ensure that we could block the lights.

We decided to build a retaining garden similar to the exisiting fence and planted bamboo, sounds a bit easier than it was!

Materials

Basian concrete

sand and Cement

Besser Blocks and Caps

Soil

Ag Pipe

Drainage Gravel

PVC Pipe

Exteria Paint (monument Black)

Tools

Trowl

Ozzito Conrete Mixer

Block cutter

Paint brush and roller

Steps

Step 1

Step one clear existing plants from the wall and pressure was the wall. We then used the exteria paint to match the screen that the council required the neighbours to put in. WE love the colour!

Step 2

Build Retaining wall using Besser Blocks. This required a trench to be dug, a cement slab to be put down since the ground was very uneven, and leveling the besser blocks in place!

Step 3

Once besser blocks were inplace and dry, we put in a drainage system using PVC piping and drainage gravel. Covered this with soil from Bunnings, planted the bamboo and covered with mulch bark!

Step 4

Then everything looked a bit old, so the garden bed was painted the same colour, a hose reel installed and now it's just waiting on the grass and bamboo to grow!!

Re: Retaining garden bed with screening bamboo

Hi @EGuignard,

The new garden beds look fantastic against the freshly painted block wall.

I bet you are glad to have the additional privacy so you can enjoy your fantastic garden space.

Thank you for sharing your backyard renovation.

Jacob
