Completed steps with help of handyman friend - lots of concrete/mortar mixing, lots of swearing, lots of sunscreen working on hot days and a few discussions on how it should be done (I was right). The tricky bit was ensuring the top of each step was closely aligned to level of driveway, this meant steps not all the same height, but much safer than having a drop. Because of the sideway slope at bottom, we opted for flatter, leaning slope...again, to avoid having a drop from driveway to steps. Happy with them, but some of the pavers are lifting - I think because not enough mortar used, and personally I'd have probably thrown a bit of bondcrete in the mix. So now I need to know how to refix pavers - more mortar, or my handyman friend is suggesting some sort of glue.
See previous discussion about the project.
Steps
Step 1
- dug out rough steps from bottom to top
- lay row of bricks as riser of each step
- lay treads, ensured measurements and positions all good
- did this all the way from top to bottom
- concreted in row of bricks, concrete to base of steps
- mortar above concrete and wherever paver would sit
- ensured pavers sat level on bricks
- positioned pavers to have slight slope forwards for drainage
