What post for mounting retractable hose?

Hi,

I'm researching hoses for the garden and would like to purchase one that is in a housing, rolls up and attaches to something. Similar to this one though still researching these as well.

Thing is I am not keen to attach anything heavy to either my house (which is clad) or the sub floor skirting. So I'm thinking a free standing post near the tap will work.

Question - what would you suggest that will be wide enough to take the part that attaches?

Thank you,

Carole

Re: post for hose

Hello @cassy1

I see you're looking to get the Garden Basics 30m Auto Rewind Hose Reel. As a possible alternative, I propose looking at the Holman 30m Retractable Hose Reel for two reasons. First, it has narrower wall bracket and second, it has the excellent feature of allowing you to replace the garden hose should it get damaged.

I propose using a 100 x 100mm 2.4m Post H4 Treated Pine Wet CCA - 2.4m for your retractable hose reel. I've placed an image below to give you an idea of how it can be positioned.

Here is a link to the Holman's instruction manual: Holman User Guide

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: post for hose

Hi Eric,

Thank you for this.

So ... with the post, what length would you suggest having it cut to, taking into account the amount that needs to be buried? I understand it is all personal preference (and some people might want the finished post to be say 1.8m high) but I am thinking around 1.0 - 1.2m above the ground would allow for hanging space and not be too low to bend to? But then looking at the pic it does need to have post above the hose ...

I will have to ask Bunnings to cut it for me before someone collects it for me, hence the question.

Many thanks,

Carole

Re: post for hose

I would suggest having at least 400mm of the post buried within the ground, Carol (@cassy1). So, if you aim to achieve a height of 1200mm, the post should be cut at 1600mm. I'd also recommend digging a footer hole of a minimum of 300 x 300 x 400 mm and using at least three bags of concrete in it.
