What size pump do I need to get for my 1000 litre frog pond? It just needs water flow and to connect to an existing water feature that acts as a waterfall.
What pumps are available for a 1000 litre outdoor frog pond with a waterfall?
Hi @Sheryl9,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
I’d suggest the AQUAPRO AP1000F Pond and Fountain Pump for your 1,000-litre frog pond because it provides the right balance between gentle water movement and enough power to run a small waterfall.
It delivers up to 1,200 L/h, which is ideal for circulating the pond water about once per hour, which is great for oxygenation and preventing stagnation without creating turbulence that could disturb frogs or tadpoles.
With a maximum head height of 2 m, it can easily handle a small waterfall or feature that’s up to 1m high, although the flow rate would decrease to around 600L/h at 1m tall. It also includes a T-piece and flow control so you can fine-tune or split the flow between the waterfall and a fountain head if needed.
Overall, it’s a compact, energy-efficient, and easy-to-maintain option that keeps the pond healthy and moving while staying safe for wildlife.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

As per @JacobZ's suggestion and I strongly suggest you also purchase a pre-filter sponge.
Looks like this and easily replaced when needed.
Our pond... and I like your froggy pond.
