The Bunnings website has an article on growing these, yet they don't appear to sell them?
Very strange.
Anyone know where to get them please?
Hello @mrfixit
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you for joining us and sharing your question about the Yam Daisy.
Having read the cooking instructions for this plant, I'm now very interested to know what it tastes like. Let me make some inquiries for you and find out if this plant can be specially ordered. As soon as I have more information, I will get back to you.
Let me tag our experienced members @Noelle and @Adam_W for their recommendations.
Eric
Hi Eric,
thanks for the welcome and for looking into this for me.
I imagine you'd need quite a few to get a feed from these, but yes it would be interesting to try them.
Plus it's just an interesting native plant that was once apparently very common and widespread, but sadly no longer.
If no plants, then perhaps seed is available?
Hi @EricL and @mrfixit
Yam Daisy (Microseris) is indigenous to the Greater Melbourne area. You will find it at some specialist native nurseries - it is not in major commercial growers' catalogues.
It is listed by Kuranga Native Nursery, Mt Evelyn and Victorian Indigenous Nurseries Co-Op (VINC), Fairfield, in their Indigenous tube stock lists.
Both nurseries have websites and are offering 'click & collect' if stock is available.
Thanks. I'll check those suppliers out. 🙂
I'm on the NSW mid north coast where M. lanceolata is the local species (or at least it was, I haven't seen any growing in the wild lately unfortunately).
Was hoping I could pick one or two up at a local Bunnings. I searched online last night and Tucker Bush plants is a grower, and according to their website they are a supplier to my nearest Bunnings in Forster.
My main aim being to let them seed in order to re establish them on my previously semi cleared coastal bush block.
Here's what I found.last night...... https://tuckerbush.com.au/murnong-yam-daisy-microseris-lanceolata/
Hi @mrfixit
It's great that you've received excellent information from @Noelle. I've spoken to our plant specialist at the store and our flower providers, I'm sorry but it is not available as a flower or seed. It may have been an item the store carried at one point, hence the reason you saw that information on the website.
If you need more advice or information, please let us know.
Good luck and hope you have some success!
