Can I mix both Flatpax and Kadooble base cabinets?

Can I mix both Flatpax and Kadooble base cabinets?

hi everyone, we would like to get the Flatpax cabinets but I don’t like the blind corner and would prefer the Kadooble 900mm  corner cabinet. But I’m not sure if it would fit with the rest of the Flatpax cabinets.
Does anyone know if we are able to mix and match?
Thanks

Re: Can I mix and match flatpax and Kadooble base cabinets?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @priscilafonse. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Kaboodle and Flatpax compatibility.

You can use Kaboodle cabinetry alongside Flatpax. However, they have different types of doors on them, and the difference would be noticeable. They have different processes for the application of their coatings, with Kaboodle having the more premium process. Kaboodle doors have a gloss vacuum-formed front face with no seams on the edges, whereas Flatpax doors have a satin laminate front face and edges with seams. You can get basic Kaboodle doors that are not vacuum-formed and gloss, but they don't come in stark white. The colour difference is another issue, and although both companies do white doors, their 'whites' are likely not quite the same. You could go with the raw doors and paint them yourself, which might give you a closer appearance than the vacuum-formed option, but colour-matching to the Flatpax doors would be tricky.

Functionally there are no issues, but at a glance, you'll easily see that the doors are distinctively different.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Can I mix and match flatpax and Kadooble base cabinets?

Hi Mitchell, I'm also looking to use Flatpax cabinets.  However Flatpax doesn't sell a base cabinet end panel.  Like Priscila, I was thinking about using a Kaboodle item.  Is there a Kaboodle colour that is a close (if not exact) match for the Flatpax white?  If not, do you have any suggestions about what to do for an end panel?  Would a sheet of 600mm wide plain white melamine from Bunnings, cut to the right size of course, do the job?  Thanks, Nick.

Hello @NickW1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about end panels.

Your idea of using a a melamine panel is actually quite good. However, you run into the issue of colour compatibility again. To give you an idea of what it can look like, I suggest grabbing a small melamine panel from the timber area and placing it next to the Flatpax cabinet display in the store. From there you'll be able to see the colour difference.

I suggest trying this technique, bring a Flatpax door panel to the paint department and ask them to create a colour match for you. I then recommend using a 16mm MDF panel and painting it in the colour matched paint that the paint specialist made for you. You can then use this as the end panel for your cabinet.

I've seen one of my kitchen clients do this method before as they wanted to cut down on their kitchen renovation cost. The best part is that you can use it as a feature panel and paint it in a dark grey to make it stand out.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
