How to add sliding doors to kitchen cupboards?

Hi all,

I would like to create cupboard doors as I am not a fan of the open shelving. I think sliding doors would work best but does anyone have any advice on how I could attach the bottom rail?

Grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!

Re: Kitchen cupboard project

Hi @Mary7,

It looks like have custom cabinetry or sliding doors fixed over this area would be the best solution. You'd likely need a cabinet maker to install them for a great finish. If you can measure the height, width and depth of these alcoves then we can check to see if there are any off-the-shelf solutions in our Kaboodle range that could be positioned in there.

Regarding installing a bottom rail, I gues the best fixing method would be determined by the system you choose to use. I'm unaware of a pre-fabricated sliding door option that would suit this area. At a very basic level, aluminium channel can be used for that purpose and you'd countersink holes in it and screw through it into the shelves.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much!! The measurements are as follows 87cm high, 50cm deep and 237cm long. Really appreciate your advice

Re: Kitchen cupboard project

The Kaboodle deep wall cabinets are 720mm high and 400mm deep, @Mary7, so they would fit within those gaps. If you want them to finish flush with the front of the horizontal shelves, you'd need to install some framing behind them to make up the 100mm difference. You then also need a try to cover the 150mm gap in height difference.

They come in a variety of widths, so you should be able to find a combination that suits the space. You'd only be able to run them up to the rangehood bulkhead. Whats the distance from the rangehood bulkhead across the to left hand wall? Once I know that measurements I can help work out a combination of widths for the cabinets to neatly fill the space.
