How to attach aerator to threadless kitchen tap?

How to attach aerator to threadless kitchen tap?

Moved into new rental. Want to attach aerator to kitchen sink tap but it has no threads inside or out. Not sure if it's been worn away over time but there is definitely nothing there. Is there an adaptor for situations like this? Or aerators specifically for threadless taps? Just want to do something quick as it's not a high priority repair for real-estate. Have seen some adaptors for outdoor taps but they are a bulky and an eye sore for the kitchen. Also any tips for cleaning inside of tap if that's a thing? Thanks!

Re: attach aerator to threadless kitchen tap?

Hello @Louie

Thanks for sharing your question about your kitchen tap. I'm sorry but Bunnings currently does not stock an aerator for this type of tap. You are correct in regards to the adaptors for outdoor taps, they are bulky and can only be used for garden taps.

Unfortunately, there are no purpose-built aerators for this type of tapware. I can only recommend speaking to your property manager and proposing that you change the tapware for something a bit more modern. I'm currently unaware of a tool that you can use to clean the inside of the tap as it's not commonly done.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to attach aerator to threadless kitchen tap?

Hello @Louie wire brushes to clean inside small orifices/pipes are less common but available at selected/specialist stores, the drill attachment from Total Tools would be the most suitable, that said a replacement tap spout would be less effort.

Re: How to attach aerator to threadless kitchen tap?

Hi @Louie,

Just so you are aware, the rough texture I believe you are referring to inside the tap spout is likely from when the tap was poured in the mould. It's part of the tap's manufacturing process, not a buildup of grime inside it. The outside of the tap would have looked similar until it was ground away and buffed to a smooth finish.

Can I also ask about the aerator and what you'd like to achieve with it? Functionally, the tap would operate the same with or without it. However, it will reduce the amount of water used, if water usage is a concern.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
