How to build a Banquette corner bench seat?

Hi Im following an American Tutorial on how to build a banquette corner bench.  My home only has a small dining room and this bench will fit perfectly.

Anyhoo..... after googling what 4x2 timbers are called now (45mmx95mm) I need to use 2.5" self tapping screws.  The screws are to attached a 2x4 (45mmx95mm) to another 2x4(45mmx95mm) - Can you advise what screw would be suitable for this project.

Cheers and thanks SharonScreenshot 2025-06-24 at 1.39.59 pm.png

Re: Building a Banquette corner bench seat

Hello @ShazNDave

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your bench seat.

The closest equivalent you can get at the store would be the 90 x 45mm Framing MGP10 Untreated Pine 2.4m. I propose using Zenith 10 - 8 x 100mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head Timber Screws - 50 Pack or similar. My best advice is to drill deep pilot holes for the screws to prevent splitting the timber when you are putting it together. Please remember to anchor your seating frame to the studs of the wall to prevent it from moving.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
