How to change under sink plumbing to fit a bin?

Hi there!

I'm wondering if anybody has advice of available parts I could use for my under-sink plumbing.

I'm trying to fit a sliding bin under my apartment sink, and it is *so close* to fitting perfectly!! I've already shifted the U bend as far to the left as it will go (considering the current locations of the holes, in the surfaces) and the bin slides in perfectly *except* for hitting that one little outlet (for the dishwasher drainage—grey pipe currently detatched). [See image]

I'm wondering, are there any alternate U-bend parts where the dishwasher drainage pipe comes off in a different direction? Or any other suggestions?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your sink trap.

Just a friendly reminder that any plumbing work needs to be carried out by a licensed plumber for safety and compliance.

Generally speaking, it might be possible to reconfigure the twist of the trap so that the inlet nipple is out of the way of your bin. The plumber might possibly loosen the bottom connection to try out different positions with the nipple facing the left. Another possible option is to extend the waste pipe at the bottom with a few bends that will allow you to reposition the traps current configuration. The only other option is to replace the trap with one that does not have an inlet nipple. The problem there is that the dishwasher will not have a proper outlet.

I was going to suggest to have a stroll into Bunnings and then play around with the piping sections until you get a configuration that shifts the nipple over. Then I had a squiz at looking at different pipes and bingo... Haigh 40mm PVC Telescopic Space Trap This may not be the size of your piping but it gave me a thought. Why not change all the piping to one that does not have the nipple? Put it aside so if you do decide to install the dishwasher you have it but until then you can have the new trap installed.

A 90deg elbow straight off the undesired of the sink to the left and one on where the pipe enters the bottom will bring everything over. Bu as @EricL mentioned, legally this is a job for a liscenced plumber.

Worst case scenario if the plumber doesn't have enough space to relocate the S-bend to the left they can cut the base board. Then there are white sticky-back thin plates that can be cut to shape to cover the over-sized access hole to neaten the job back up.
