How to convert upright stove to induction?

I have an upright 60 cm stove - electric oven and 4 gas hobs (hot plates).
I would like to get rid of the 4 gas hobs and replace with 2 induction hobs or 2 ceramic electric hobs. If this is not possible - go to 4 induction hobs or 4 ceramic electric hobs.

I would prefer to keep the upright unit (the oven works well and is electric - it is a DeLonghi DE 61 GW Dual Fuel Cooler.
Is it possible to get a 60 x 60 wooden benchtop on top and sit it on top of the stove and have the gas hobs etc removed? stove top image haines.jpg

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your free standing oven.

I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with your free standing stove cooktop and oven. Generally speaking, I don't advise disassembling your gas cooktop as it has been engineered together. Removing parts of it could result in unexpected consequences. In regards to placing a timber panel above the freestanding oven, again it will not be possible as the panel benchtop is too short and there is the possibility of tipping it over.

I understand your desire to keep the oven as it is still functioning. Instead, I suggest looking at the Bellini 60cm Ceramic Cooktop And Electric Oven - Builder Pack. It can be easily fit into a Kaboodle 600 oven base cabinet. It can be combined with a timber benchtop which can be cut to fit the cooktop. This would be a much easier upgrade to accomplish rather than trying to assemble different parts together.

I know that feeling 😕 Its a pain. What @EricL has mentioned about the stoves not being able to be dissasembled is correct. The best I could suggest is find out the manufacturer of your existing stove and then contact them to see if there is a recomendation. Thats about the only way I can think of approaching the problem.

Mainly because you will be heating/cooking with it, if something goes wrong and the stovetop burns/causes other issues your insurance I would say wont cover you. Wiser step would be to replace the stove and stove top with two seperate units so you can replace at will if part breaks.

If you dont want to use gas and have the space you could install the induction hobs that you want on a new bench to the right of the stove.

Appreciating that you want to reduce wastage, but I would highly recommend you don't modify the upright at all. And I am 100% confident the manufacturer will say the same thing. There will be gas connections and possibly electric for the ignighters. Plus most importantly there will be clearance issues and safety regulations relating to heat. All of these would essentially void any chance of an insurance claim should something go wrong.

I would look into a good 2nd hand or seconds/refurbished options for the oven. There are so many appliances on Marketplace and from authorised retailers which would be my choice as they will have warranty and come tested for safety etc.

Hi - it looks like i should forget the idea of conversion. The 1960s apartment has a limited supply of electricity to apartment. So i need to look for low ampage solutions. Is there a stove that has less ampage?

This looks like a good option for your circumstances, but it would still be worth contacting an electrician to ensure it works for you.
