Hi
My kitchen tap has come loose but the board it is attached to has broken away underneath (see attached picture, taken looking upward while lying on my back underneath the sink). The board is about an inch thick. Any suggestions about how I could patch this piece to rebuild it again so I can put a new tap in? The tap at the top is completely loose as well (see picture) as the board underneath it has broken away and isn’t holding it in place.
Unfortunately I can’t remove the bench top. I would have to patch it coming from underneath the sink ![]()
Any advice would be appreciated!
Maybe you could cut out the damaged section with a multi tool and replace it with a new piece secured by with some small joining plates.
Hi @TallyQuest,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
Assuming the mounting mechanism for your tap can be adjusted for different thicknesses of bench, then your easiest option might be to grab a small piece of plywood, cut a hole in it to feed the hoses through, then attach it to the underside of the existing benchtop. This would give you a solid piece for the taps mounting mechanism to tighten around.
If this is not an option, then @ChrisA's idea of cutting out the damaged section with a multitool and securing a new piece in place with mending plates would be a good option.
Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
