Yes my kitchen sink tap has become lose because of the wood under sink become water damaged and I have a piece of plywood to replace it but was wondering how I do that. Plus is there a video I can watch.
Hello @margs333
Thanks for sharing your question about your benchtop. I suggest removing the tapware first so that you can repair the damaged section. Allow the damaged benchtop to dry off properly, you can use a hairdryer or a heat gun to accelerate the drying process. Once the benchtop is dry, I suggest spraying the damaged section with Earl's 250ml Wood Hardener to recover the stiffness of the wood. Allow the benchtop to dry off properly before conducting repairs.
When the wood hardener has dried off, I suggest getting a piece of cardboard shaped like a triangle that will fit under the sink where the kitchen tap hole is. You can trim the cardboard until it fits properly under the benchtop. When you have the ideal shape place the cardboard under the benchtop and ask a family member to trace the kitchen tap hole from the top with a pencil. You now have a template for the benchtop patch.
The next step is to cut out the circle that has been traced on the cardboard. Place the cardboard over the plywood and trace its shape with a pencil, trace the circle cut out as well. You can now cut the plywood to the proper shape. The next step is to sand the sides and center of the plywood to remove splinters. Once sanded properly you can now re-install the tap and place the plywood brace underneath. You can glue the plywood patch with Selleys 130g Liquid Nails Fast Grab Strong Adhesive if you wish. My best advice is to do a test fit before you commit to its final position.
I'm sorry but there are no video guides for this D.I.Y repair project.
