How to install a new rangehood in old fireplace?

Hi, I am in the process of replacing my gas oven with an electric oven in an old fireplace. There is a gas oven there now, but I want to put a Rangehood in above, but the height above the new oven won't allow me to put a Rangehood in as it has to be 600mm above the stove. Any suggestions that don't cost too much?

Re: How to install a new rangehood in old fireplace?

Hello @PeterTr

Just for clarification an electric cooktop will need a space of 600mm between the surface of the cooktop and the bottom surface of the rangehood. If you are still going to use a gas cooktop but an electric oven you will need a space of 700mm++ between the top of the gas cooktop and the bottom surface of the rangehood.

If the front cover of the chimney can be removed it might be possible to install a Kleenmaid 52cm Undermount Rangehood For A 60cm Cooktop. But the space must be measured first to make sure that the unit can be fitted in.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

I am putting an induction freestanding oven and stovetop in. At the moment there is only 550mm clearance between the top of the new oven I hope to put in and the top of the chimney. There may need to be some renovation done to raise that clearance up to 600mm, but I am not sure.

Re: How to install a new rangehood in old fireplace?

Hello @PeterTr

The only way to find out if there is space under your chimney is to remove the front cladding. It might be a bit involved so I would encourage you to engage the services of a builder to investigate and provide you with a quote for the installation of the rangehood.
