How to level benchtop before painting?

Hello!

I am looking for advice on how to level this part of the bench top so I can paint it with the Dulux renovation range or Rust-Oleum counter top kit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
thank you

Re: trying to level this area before painting kitchen bench top

Hello @runningteezy (Tiana)

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your kitchen benchtop.

It will be necessary to do a bit of an investigation. The dishwasher must be pulled out in order to see how the benchtop is attached to the sides of the existing benchtop. If it just screws, then the screws must be taken out and the benchtop levelled before screwing it back on. If the benchtop is glued on the adhesive must be cut in order for the benchtop to be moved. I suggest using a multi tool to cut the sides of the benchtop. If it is held in place with bench top clips the nuts must be loosened in order to change the level of the benchtop.

Once the level of the benchtop has been adjusted you can then begin the preparatory steps to paint your benchtop.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thank you Eric

this is what underneath looks like.
I can lift part of the granite up as the silicone is coming off. I assume I would level the brace part underneath and then apply a new coat of silicone on top after remove the old stuff?

Re: trying to level this area before painting kitchen bench top

Hello @runningteezy

Thank you for sharing that extra photo of your benchtop. Yes, once you've adjusted the benchtop to the proper level the brace must be adjusted as well so that the benchtop stays at the correct level. If you are using silicone, please make sure to check that it can be painted on its surface once it cures.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: trying to level this area before painting kitchen bench top

Hello @runningteezy

I propose looking at Selleys 410g Paintable Sealant Paint Over White. Should you decide to use another product it will usually state on the product description at the back of the bottle if it can be painted over.
