Hoping someone might be able to provide advice on how to plaster this wall section, it previously had tiles on it

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your indoor wall.
I suggest cleaning the wall and using a grinder with a wire wheel paint stripper. This will allow you to remove all the paint on the surface. If you are planning on painting the surface, I recommend using Gyprock CSR 20kg Hardwall Plaster. This will allow you to produce a nice even surface which you can then paint over. Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when using the grinder.
