How to prepare surface for retiling splashback?

I have just started removing splash back tiles as you will see by the photo. Is this surface

good enough for a tiler to install the new tiles or do I need to do some more prep work?

Re: Removing splashback tiles

Hello @Susieq25

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your splashback.

Looking at the photo you've posted, it appears that the damage is not very deep and only the surface cover of the plasterboard has been removed. The surface still appears to quite flat, But I suggest sanding the paper edges that have lifted up so that you have a nice flat surface. If you continue to remove the tiles in the same manner and not damage the surface any deeper the tiler should be able to tile over that surface.

However, if a large section happens to come off during the process of removal, that section will need to be filled in so that the surface of the wall is level.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
