How to remove yellow discolouration from kitchen cabinets?

Hi all,

I've noticed that some of my kitchen cabinet doors have developed a yellowish discoloration, mainly along the edges. Since I've already removed the doors to replace the hinges and handles, I figured it would be a good time to tackle the discoloration before reinstalling them.

Does anyone have recommendations for effective cleaning methods or chemicals that could help restore their original look?

I'm sorry but I'm currently unaware of a chemical wipe that you can use on the edge of your kitchen cabinetry to return the plastic edging back to white. However, there is the option of painting the edges with Dulux Renovation Range. The plastic edging must be sanded well to prepare the surface for painting.

Thank you, Eric. If I choose to paint, what type of primer would you recommend for better adhesion on plastic edging? Additionally, what grit sandpaper would be best for surface preparation?

Would removing the plastic edging be a viable solution, or could it potentially damage the cabinet doors? Lastly, would it be more effective to paint only the edges or the entire cabinet doors for a more uniform finish?

I suggest using the Dulux 1L Renovation Range Primer. I propose using 240grit sandpaper to remove the gloss finish on the plastic surface. I don't recommend removing the plastic surround as it might damage the door further. In regard to painting the edging that is exactly what I was proposing to do so that you won't have to paint the entire door. My best advice is to put masking tape on the door so that only the edges are revealed. This will protect your door fronts from overpainting.
