how do i know what type is my kitchen cabinet door? And how to repaint? How do i know what type is my kitchen cabinet door?
Hi @Munira,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
If you unscrew one of the hinges from the back of the door, then look inside the screw hole, you will be able to tell what the base material is. It is most likely chipboard or MDF.
You'll then want to look at the seams on the coloured front. Can you see any distortion in the material, like it is being wrapped around from the front to the top, bottom or sides? Or is there an edge band that looks like one sheet of material ends and then another one begins on the adjoining face?
Having a look at the doors, they appear to be chipboard with a high gloss vinyl applied to them, but some photos of the seams I mentioned above would help to confirm this.
If it is high gloss vinyl, like I suspect, you can use the same approach shown in How to Paint Laminate Kitchen Cabinetry; you will just have to sand the surface to remove the shine before applying your primer. This can be done with some 120-grit sandpaper.
Let me know what you find and if you have further questions, please add them so I can assist further.
