How to repair damaged plasterboard?

Putting in a new kitchen.

Do I need to sand all this and put in new plaster, then paint the. Install then put tiles?

I'm stumped by the walls and ceilings.

The new kitchen will touch the ceiling and the splashbacks will be tiles

Re: Do I need new plaster? installing a new kitchen and tiles splashback

Hi @itsafixeruper,

For the plaster walls that you plan to paint, you’ll need to make sure they are smooth and even. This usually means either applying a topping plaster compound to smooth out any imperfections and then sanding it down, or alternatively, installing new plasterboard over the existing walls to create a clean, smooth surface ready for painting.

For the areas that will be covered with tiles, like your splashback, the surface doesn’t need to be perfectly smooth. A slightly rough wall or some leftover glue residue usually isn’t a problem, as tiles can be installed over these surfaces without issue. So, focus your smoothing efforts mainly on the painted sections, and you should be fine to tile over the rest.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
