How to replace built-in bin?

Hi Team,

My in-laws have a bin problem, they’ve got a very specific piece of cabinetry built into their kitchen for their bin (as seen in the photos) and the bin has unfortunately broken.

Trying to gather some ideas as to how we might fix this for them? The bin is very much not standard size so no off the shelf bins fit the cavity unfortunately.

Thank you for sharing your question about replacing your pull-out bin. There are two possible solutions I can suggest, first is to bring the bin to the store and compare it to the Willow 30L White/Charcoal Touch Top Tidy Slim Bin. Your goal is to find a bin that is very close to the size and shape of the old one. Another aspect you are after is that the bin should ever so slightly be bigger and should have a top opening that's slightly wider.

The next step is to turn the new bin upside down and trace the new opening over the bin drawer's slot. Make sure to cut 5mm inside the line so that the lip hangs on the drawer panel. You can then use a jigsaw to cut the new opening, make sure to test the fit and sand down the edges so that the bin slides in and out smoothly. The second method is to try and find another bin that is close to the size of the old bin, but in this instance, it does not have to be the same shape. Once you find a similarly sized bin and say for example that it is circular in shape, I suggest removing the old panel with the cut out and replacing it with a new one with the new bin cut out.

Hi @dunts , the bin with the hole in the bottom can be repaired, just buy any plastic container that is bigger than the opening of the damaged bin , make a cardboard template to neatly fit inside the damaged bin, then cut the base of the plastic container to the cardboard template, then silicone the plastic base in the bin, allow to dry then use as normal.
