Hello,
I’d like to buy a taller dishwasher but to do so I need to replace my current sink attachments with something that takes up less space.
If I remove the pieces of timber to replace it with something thinner, the attachments are still 2 mm too long to allow for the new dishwasher.
Is there another kind of attachment I could replace these with?
Hi @Kirrily,
Can I just confirm, is it only the fitting at the back with the timber piece that is too long? From your photo, it looks like the timber might be adding unnecessary thickness. Often, timber is used there because without it, the sink clip has maxed out its adjustment range and can’t grip properly, so a spacer is added. If that’s the case, you may be able to undo the fitting, remove the timber, and replace it with a thinner piece, which could give you the couple of millimetres of clearance you need.
It’s also worth checking whether your dishwasher height is adjustable. Many models have feet with a screw and locking nut, which can be wound in or out to raise or lower the unit. This might be enough to solve the problem without touching the sink fixings.
Because the clips you’ve got are proprietary to the sink, there aren’t really slimmer universal alternatives. A professional installer could look at drilling into the benchtop edge and using plastic plugs with screws to secure the sink, but that’s a bit of a risky option and not usually recommended for DIY.
Since you only need about 2mm more clearance, you might even find that a professional can carefully grind down the clips a touch to reduce their profile, but that’s something I’d recommend getting help with rather than attempting yourself.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks for your response.
The clip further back is the original, the one closest is where I have removed the timber to see if I can make it fit. With the timber removed it’s still 2 mm too low for clearance. The dishwasher legs aren’t adjustable any lower
Hello @Kirrily
My teammate Mitchell has provided very sound advice in regards to your sink clips. The typical dishwasher height is around 845mm to 860mm, and the cabinet height is around 860mm++ plus the thickness of the benchtop. I propose double checking the space that you have and the actual height of the dishwasher. A few mm can sometimes make the difference, however, if after checking there is no space available, I can only suggest engaging the services of a benchtop specialist who can modify your top so that the clips are hidden from view.
In the interest of health and safety, please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a dust rated mask. Please remember that the benchtop specialist must perform the cuts and modifications in accordance with the new rules and regulations in regards to stone top modification.
