How to seal Bamboo placemats?

How to seal Bamboo placemats?

I have purchased some beautiful spun Bamboo placemats recently. They are sealed with paint on the bottom, but appear to have exposed unsealed bamboo on the top. As we have a child who tends to feed the placemat with spilt food more so than actually feeding herself, is there any safe way to create a seal on the top to prevent liquid damage and especially stains such as tomato based?

Re: How to seal Bamboo placemats?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Bennz. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealing place mats.

I'd recommend either the Gilly's 250ml Chopping Board Oil or Gilly's 250ml Liquid Beeswax. Both will leave a protective seal on the mats and are food safe. However, with any timber surface, it's best to wipe food off it as soon as possible to prevent stains from leeching into it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
